Minuteman Trail: The Time Has Come for Year-Round Access

Take Action

Show your support for a Clear Trail

In light of the recent unanimous vote by the Board of Selectmen to fund a pilot program of year-round maintenance for the coming winter, we ask that you complete the circle and send a note of thanks. The hard part is over, now our role shifts to that of watchdog, to ensure the Town executes the pilot program in accordance with the wishes of the vast constituency that has called for it. A letter of thanks will go a long way to ensure this pilot program becomes official Town policy for the future. We will continue to monitor this initiative and be sure to keep you all in the loop. Thanks again for your support and, most importantly, your action.

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is ______ and I am writing to thank you for your recent vote in favor of year-round maintenance of the Minuteman Trail. I am excited that the fruits of year-round access will now be Arlington's to enjoy. Like so many communities before ours, Arlington can now reap the benefits of safe passage to a crucial transit hub, off-street winter access to the commercial Center of Arlington, a Safe Route to School for our children, and uninterrupted recreation and exercise. Selectman Clarissa Rowe said it best:

“This is the future of Arlington…new Arlington residents are using the bike path both to get to (Arlington) Center, where we really need their presence, and to get to Alewife. I think this is new Arlington coming along and saying ‘this is what we want.'"

Year-round access will enhance our community in ways yet unseen in Arlington and will bring shoppers and diners from surrounding communities to Arlington's bustling business district. I appreciate your vote in favor of the pilot program and look forward to the day when year-round maintenance is official Town policy.

Sincerely,
